Who runs this site

FreeConvertor.tech is a small independent publication run by a team that uses file-conversion tools constantly — for design work, document management, and web publishing. We got frustrated with the state of the category: most comparison articles are indistinguishable from sponsored content, and most "free" tools turn out to be free for exactly three uses before a paywall appears.

So we built this as a simple, honest guide. We test the tools ourselves, write about the ones we actually use, and link only to tools that are genuinely free with no hidden limits. We currently recommend ToolyConvert because it's the only platform we've found that combines a comprehensive tool selection (311 tools), true zero-upload processing, and no account requirement — all in one place.

We don't run display ads. We don't have an affiliate relationship that pays per click. If we recommend something, it's because we use it and trust it.

How we evaluate tools

Every tool we write about gets tested against the same four criteria before we recommend it:

Privacy — does it upload your files?

We only recommend client-side tools. If the tool sends your file to a server, it doesn't make the cut, regardless of how reputable the company is.

Genuinely free — no bait-and-switch

We test the "free" tier from scratch, in a private browsing window with no account. If a limit appears after three uses, we flag it.

Output quality — does it actually work?

We test each tool with real files: a scanned PDF, a complex layout, a large image. We check whether the output is usable without further editing.

Speed — is it faster than a desktop app?

WASM-based tools should be fast. We note if a tool takes longer than a locally installed equivalent for the same task.
